June News from P2

Nellie received the helpful award and Molly won the forgiving award in June. Congratulations girls.

I’m going to stay in my Nanny Kathleen’s. My auntie and uncle will be there and they are going to take me to the cinema.-Blaithin

We walked to the cinema on the 1st of June. We watched the Muppets. We all got popcorn, sweets and a drink. We had the whole cinema to ourselves.-Fiona

Dr Bennett and Fergal the camera man came to our class to record a literacy lesson. They filmed us reading the big book and talking about bears.-Kayleigh

I did hot seat for the video. I wore a furry waist coat and pretended that I was a polar bear. I had two little bear cubs. Lots of girls asked me questions and I answered them in long sentences.-Grace

I used ‘Writer 2’ to write my report on bears. Dr Bennett came over and asked me to read it for the camera. Dr Bennett was nice and she said she would always remember our class.-Ella

I read a book for the video to show everyone how we do reading in St. Clare’s. My mum and dad brought curry in for the class. Fiona liked it and had lots-Jacqulin

I went to the Odyssey for the ‘Sentinus Young Innovators Challenge’. I got up at six o’clock. I had to wear a badge with my name and school on it. I had an ipad to show the judges how our class made our money grow. I got hot chocolate and ice-cream.-Ella

This was my first sports day in St. Clare’s and I won a medal. My sister and cousin came to watch me.-Nellie

My baby brother Shea came to sports day and my dad worked in the Tuck Shop. I bought a Kitkat and a drink.-Chloe

We went to watch the P7 play. The girls had beautiful costumes. We laughed at all the funny parts.-Rachel

Media went to Lithuania on the 13th of June. She brought us in sweets and we had a party to say goodbye.-Natalia

The P2 team would like to thank all of the girls for their excellent behaviour at the cinema and during the filming. We have enjoyed working with all the girls this year and want to thank the girls’ parents and extended family for their kindness, support and gifts. 

We wish Jacqulin and Michelle happiness in their new school.

We send our best wishes to Miss Keenan who has taken early retirement. We all pray that God will reward her with long life and happiness. We thank her for the immeasurable contribution she has made to our school.



May news from our P2 class.

Grace was awarded the ‘Respectful’ award at assembly this month. Kayleigh received the ‘Friendly’ award and Rachel received the ‘Hardworking award’. Congratulations girls.

 

There were two birthday girls this month. Grace’s birthday was on the 14th May. She had a ‘Zumba’ party with some of the girls from the class. Grace is now six years old. Caitlin K was also six in May and got her ears pierced!

I wrote a poem about when the wind blows. I wrote that when you are on the swings in the park the wind can blow you high up. - Caitlin T
I wrote a poem about the wind. Ella told me that her favourite part was when I wrote about the curtains blowing out the window and they went woooooosh.-Grace
I drew a weather picture and wrote labels on it. -Jacqulin
I did a word sort. I wrote the words in the right places.

I did problem solving. I had to count in 2s and 3s to find the right answer. -Rachel
I played a numeracy game called ‘Spotty Dog’. It was very good fun.
-Molly

I went to the beach in Newcastle with my nanny and Great Nanny. I built a sandcastle and I walked in the waves.-Caitlin T

I had a barbeque in my back garden because the weather was good. I ate hotdogs and burgers.-Chloe

I got a present from my mummy for being a good girl.-Jacqulin

I have two new baby cousins. They are two boys called Noah and Alex.-Rachel

I got to use my swimming pool in my back garden. I swam in the water and splashed my daddy. It was a good way to stay cool on a hot day. I had to go with Mrs Monaghan and talk about how P2 made our money grow. I think I was good at it. Mrs McQuillan says that she is going to show me how to us an ipad. My sister will be jealous!-Ella

We have been saying a decade of the Rosary during May. Lots of girls have their own rosary beads and we keep them on the May altar. -Michelle

We had to colour in bubble writing for a banner for the Odyssey for the ‘Make Our Money Grow’ competition. We used blue, brown and yellow because they are the school colours.-Fiona.
I helped Miss Kavanagh make the poster for the Odyssey too, it is very big and the art prefects came to our class at lunch time to help finish it. -Blaithin

We went to Belfast to W5 on our school trip. I played in the big house with my friends.-Oliwia
It was a very sunny day and I got to sit in the back seat of the bus.-Meida
I helped look after Nellie on the trip. I was her partner and I held her hand to make her feel happy and safe.-Chloe
I went up in the lift with Caitlin K and Mrs McQuillan. We took turns pushing the button. We could see out of the lift and we were faster than the others. Miss Kavanagh told me I was a great girl and I was very happy.-Caitlin T.
On the way back to the bus we went for a walk beside the water and saw boats

I was sad that Grace could not come to W5 because she had the chicken pox.-Fiona

The P2 team wish to thank the girls for their excellent behaviour during our visit to W5. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable day. We have lots of photos in school photos / events.

A special thank you to Miss Harris for her help on the trip and throughout the year. Miss Harris has now finished her work experience and left us on the 25th of May.

Thanks also to our P2 families who supported the sponsored walk and attended the PA bingo.

April News from P2

Congratulations to our merit award winners; Oliwia was our polite girl and Chloe was responsible.

Our prefect for the summer term is Chloe and our sub-prefect is Blaithin.

We are glad that Caitlin is recovered and back at school.

I went to Armagh Planetarium over the Easter holidays with my family. I made an alien and a rocket when I was there.-Blaithin

It was my little sister’s christening. She didn’t cry when the priest poured Holy Water on her head. We had a big cake and I brought some in for the class and the teachers to eat.-Grace

Miss Kavanagh told us that we had to use our imagination for our literacy. I wrote a story about under the sea. It had a beginning, middle and an end. Rachel said that she liked my writing because I wrote that the king lost his trident. - Caitlin T

I named all of the characters from the story ‘The kingdom Under the Sea’. My favourite characters were Flora and Olly. Flora was the mermaid and Olly was the octopus. - Grace

I drew a picture for the setting of the story ‘The kingdom Under the Sea’ then I stuck on all the labels for everyone in the story.-Kayleigh

I stuck all the words into the right places in my word sort.-Molly

I stuck lots of words together to make two sentences.-Oliwia

I like to write my word in different colours and I like to write sentences.-Michelle

I did good writing about the ‘missing trident’ and Chloe told me that it was brilliant. -Meida

I wrote a story about an owl called Blink. At the start of the story Blink couldn’t fly but by the end he could. Blink had to fly at night.-Chloe

I wrote a story about climbing up a tree to talk to two owls.-Blaithin

We came first in the feis. We said three poems ‘If you should meet a Crocodile’, ‘Through the Jungle’ and ‘walking through the Jungle’. We had to put sounds in each poem with instruments.-Meida
Me and Blaithin had to go up onto the stage to collect our shield and we had toast and biscuits when we got back to school.-Chloe

I made lots of patterns from shapes. I had to draw round all of the shapes and then colour them in.-Natalia

I did problem solving. I had to find a rule for petals on some flowers. I had to write out all the sums and colour in the answers that were the same and that is how you find the rule.-Ella

I was finding the answers to my sums by counting on beads.
I know how to make teen numbers. 15 is 10 add 5. I wrote my sum on a sheet.

I like using Number Train to do subtracting sums. - Caitlin K

I drew a picture of a big ship called the Titanic. It is for a competition.-Jacqulin

Thank you to everyone who came to watch the girls perform in the creative music section of Newry feis. The girls were a credit to their families and to St. Clare’s. You can view their performance in the videos section. The P2 individual poem is on Thursday 3rd of May and our trip is on Thursday 24th May. We will give you more information about the trip soon.

We have finished the maths project; “Making our money grow” and want to thank everyone who bought our candles. This was a big project for little girls. To see a photo story explaining the project

March News from P2

Michelle won the ‘polite’ award during March. Grace was very ‘responsible’ and Nellie was very ‘respectful’. Fiona won the ‘friendly’ award. We are very proud of you all.

 

Michelle is now six years old. Her birthday was on the 13th March. She had a party with her family. Kayleigh was also six during March. Kayleigh went ice skating with her family to celebrate her birthday.

I stayed in the Culloden hotel for two nights with my family over the St. Patrick’s weekend. It was really good fun. It was a very fancy hotel and it is an old building.-Rachel

I went on a leprecon hunt in Carlingford. I didn’t get to see one because I think that the leprecons were hiding on us. I want to go back again to look for them some other day.-Grace

We liked doing Irish dancing in the hall. Everyone was happy and we had to wear something green because it was for St. Patrick’s day. -Jacqulin

I read a story to one of the Primary Five girls on ‘World Book Day’. The story was called ‘Chicken Licken’. It was a very good book and I read it very well.-Fiona

We read a story about a ‘Baby Grizzle’. He was a  monster who likes to eat pizza. His mummy made him a pizza one day but he wouldn’t eat because her wanted red sauce on it. I love red sauce too. I drew the baby grizzle and put labels around my picture.-Grace

I wrote about dolphins. Dolphins live in the water and they like to swim. -Oliwia

I wrote lots of sentences about a big bad wolf. Sentences need capital letters at the start and full stops at the end and you have to sound out the words.-Caitlin T

I made lots of words with paper squares.-Nellie


I wrote a report about dolphins. I wrote that they can swim by moving their tails up and down. I liked doing work about dolphins. I wish I could swim with the dolphins in a swimming pool.-Kayleigh

I wrote lots of sentences about the character of the big bad wolf. I drew a scary picture of the wolf and wrote a caption beside it which said ‘This is a fierce wolf’. Then I drew a speech bubble from the wolf and wrote in it.  I put a smiley face on my work because I liked learning about the big bad wolf.-Ella

I made a picture form fruit and vegetables. I used oranges for the eyes, bananas for the mouth. For the cheeks I used red tomatoes and for the ears I used apples. I made earrings from carrots. It was really good fun. I cut everything out very carefully.-Rachel     
                   

Our new tpoic is fruit and vegetables. They are healthy for you to eat. We sorted healthy foods from unhealthy foods. I liked cutting and sticking all the different foods into my book.-Blaithin                   

We made orange juice. You have to cut the oranges and then squeeze them and that makes orange juice. We had it for our snack.-Meida

I made a shopping list on the computer. I wrote apples, oranges, potatoes and grapes.-Natalia

We made stewed apples in the staff room. The apples were hard at the start and then Miss Kavanagh cut them and put them in a saucepan. She heated them up and the apple went soft. We all liked eating them for our snack.-Caitlin K

I made 10p by using two 5ps. I found another way of making 10p. Five 2ps make 10p. I counted out money.-Natalia

I did problem solving. I had to sort cards into questions cards and information cards. Our group had to find out who had the most money. I counted using coins. I put the answers into a table.-Grace 

We have been learning about half past. We used the clocks to put the big hand to six and the little hand to twelve. That makes half past twelve.-Michelle.

February news from P2

My little sister was born at the start of February. She is beautiful and her name is Lyala. She cries sometimes and then she just goes for a little sleep. I am a very good big sister and I help my mummy.-Grace 

 One of my aunties is getting married and I am going to be a flower girl. My other auntie is going to have a baby.-Rachel

 On Valentine’s Day I had heart shaped toast in  school for my snack. Miss Kavanagh had a heart shaped cutter to make the hearts.-Michelle

We read ‘the Grumpalump I found words that rhymed. They are cat and sat and mole and roll.-Blaithin

I can write words in the sand and on the small white boards.-Nellie

I drew a picture of a hot air balloon. It was a heart shaped balloon. I put labels on my picture, I wrote ropes, burners and basket. I wish I had a hot air balloon for my mummy, my daddy, my nanny, my granda and I. Miss Kavanagh and Mrs McQuillan want to go up in a hot air balloon. We looked on google and there is a place in Belfast that takes you up in them.-Chloe

I did good work in literacy. I wrote about a story called ‘A Dark, Dark Tale and ‘The Grumpalump’. They were different stories because they had different settings. -Caitlin T

I like playing with the girls and I like Lexia and Nessy. -Oliwia

I made a Valentine’s card. I wrote clues inside my card so that my mummy had to guess it was me.  I drew a heart on the front of the card.-Rachel

I love doing my writing in school. I drew some pictures and wrote lots of words to describe the pictures. My work was very good. I gave myself a happy face.-Jacqulin

I went to the big library with Miss Vardy to read a book.-Kayleigh Q

Our reading book was about feelings and we talked about, happy, sad, jealous and anxious. We know that anxious means worried and that we can talk to the adults in our class if we are worried.-Fiona

We were weighing lots of things in our classroom on the weighing scales. We had to put the item in one pan and the cubes in the pan at the other side and count them. It was good fun. The Bee Bot was very heavy we had to use lots of cubes. The tape was very light and we used 5 cubes to get the scales to balance. -Grace

When we weighed the Bee Bot we couldn’t fit all the cubes in the pan. We had to join the cubes in tens and lay them across the pan so that we could find the weight. We had to count in tens. It was still easy to weigh the Bee Bot.-Ella

I weighed the scissors and the glue. The glue was heavier because the pan on the balance went down and the scissors went up.-Molly

I like it when we make a human number line. Everyone gets a number and they have to find the right place to stand.-Meida

You have to check that all the people are in the right order by counting them.-Natalia

During Lent we are all going to be kind and friendly in school. We made our promises and Sister Mary gave us ashes on Ash Wednesday.-Caitlin K

My birthday was in February, I went to the Fun House with some of the girls from the class. I am six now.-Caitlin T

Blaithin was a very friendly girl and won the friendly award this month. Jacqulin was hardworking and Natalia was helpful. The forgiving award went to Meida. Well done girls, we are very proud of you.   



January news from P2

Over Christmas I went to England to see my cousins. I went on a plane and it was like a wobbly roller coaster.-Rachel

Grace, Molly, Blaithin and Chloe all started gymnastics on Tuesday the 10th of January in Newry sports centre.
Grace Says;
“The girl is called Sinead and we go at half three.
I get a bar before I go to give me energy”.

  

On Wednesday the 11th of January we went into Miss Keenan’s class to buy clay and glaze. We did this because we were going to make candle holders to sell to our family and friends and to the P4 girls to remember their first communion.-Blaithin
The bag of clay cost £4.-Rachel
We gave Miss Keenan £5 for a pot of glaze and she had to give us £3 change because the glaze was £2.-Ella

We went down town to look at candle holders and went into the Cathedral to say a prayer to Our Lady and the Sacred Heart. – Chloe

I drew lots of different designs for making candle holders. I drew a heart candle, a cross and a star.-Michelle

We made the candle holders from the clay and I liked putting the designs on.-Oliwia.
When the holders were dry we painted them. My aunt ordered two the same so I decided to paint them orange.-Grace.

In literacy we read the story of the gingerbread man. I wrote three pages.-Ella
I did a good story and I liked writing.-Jacqulin.
I am writing a story about the gingerbread man to put on the wall. - Fiona
I made a gingerbread man. I cut round him and I cut out a hat and scarf for him. - Oliwia
We read the story of the Three Billy Goats. I drew a picture of a troll and he looked very scary. I wrote sentences to describe him. – Rachel.

In numeracy we are using number lines to do lots of sums. I wrote my sums on a white board. You have to put a cube on the number line and move it backwards or forwards to help you get the answer. – Ella
I liked using the number line on the white board during play time. – Natalia
We are learning to count up to 50. – Molly
I can count up to 50 in tens. – Caitlin T
I made two lines of compare bears and I found out the difference. The difference was the number of bears that didn’t have a partner.

December News from P2.

On the 2nd of December the postman came to our class. He took our Santa letters. He told us that they have to go to Belfast first and then on a grey aeroplane to the North Pole.-Fiona.
I
went to Santa’s cottage and sat in his sleigh.-Grace.

We wrote invitations to our families inviting them to our Christmas Play. We put stamps on them and put them in the post box outside the school. We had to stand on a green chair because the post box was high.- Fiona
Joe the Postman came back to see us on the 13th of December. He had letters from Santa. Santa wrote to thank us for our letters and told us to be good all year.-Fiona

My mummy and nana came to our play. We sang songs and I was an angel.-Caitlin T
My daddy came from Dublin to see me.-Kayleigh Q
My mummy was proud because I said my lines out loud

Happy birthday to Nellie, Chloe and Rachel.

For my birthday I took eight friends to the Funhouse. The best thing I got for my birthday was a furry coat “I really wanted that”. Fiona got me a voucher to shop. I am excited because I never got one of them before. Santa came to my granny’s house on the day of my birthday. He took out his book to see if I was on the good or the bad list. But we were all on the good list.-Rachel

We made cards for our families. I painted my hand. It felt cold and tickly. When it was finished it was a Santa.-Chloe

We got to use the five frames and the ten frames on the whiteboard. I know how to go on it at home.-Grace

On the 19th December we all went to the PA Christmas Fete.
I bought a raffle ticket and I won. – Ella
I bought lots of raffle tickets. My mummy pulled out my ticket and my name was called out on the microphone.– Grace
I bought a ticket and I won a hand cream set. – Meida.
I won a Buttercrane voucher and a soap set but I gave the soap set to my mummy. I want to go down the town today to buy new clothes and a matching handbag. – Caitlin K
I got my nails done at the Christmas fete and Mrs Monaghan said that they were lovely. – Caitlin T

 November News from P2
 
My baby sister got christened "Grainne Elizabeth" in the Cathedral.  We went to the Canal Court for dinner.-Fiona
 
I made cookies with my mummy and my sister. They were nice.-Blaithin
 
We had a Prayer Service for the dead on Monday the 21st of November. We had to go on the stage and our mummies came to pray with us. They carried up a candle. We had a paper candle with the names of our dead on them.-Ella.
 My granda came and he was proud of me. I used the microphone and my voice was loud.-Blaithin
 I said a prayer and My Mummy and daddy were in the front row. When I was finished reading I smiled at them.-Chloe
 I said a prayer and I loved reading it. I was not scared.-Molly.
 We had toast after assembly and it was nice. I had lots and my tooth fell out. The tooth fairy gave me £2.-CaitlinT.
 

Our new topic is “People who help us”. Our role play area is a hospital. We have been using Clicker 5 to write sentences. It talks to you and reads your sentence when you put the full stop in.-Caitlin K

 The fireman came to St. Clare’s. They parked the fire engine in the school car park. There was lots of equipment in the truck. There was a hose, pinchers, a thing that can cut a car roof, a hammer to knock down doors and an axe.-Caitlin T
 We went inside the fire engine and sat on the seats. We saw a yellow helmet and a black helmet. Some girls tried on the yellow helmet.-Kayleigh W
 The fireman showed us how to use the hose and we all squirted water in the yard. Ella said “Miss Kavanagh got a free car wash”. It was so funny when she said it.-Rachel
 
Doctor Anthony came to see us. He is a GP. We know that means he is a family doctor who works in a health centre. He helps babies, children and adults. He had two bags. One was black and the other was orange.  The black one he takes to people’s houses and the orange one to football matches.–Chloe
 He showed us the equipment a doctor uses to listen to your heart, look in your ears and at your throat. He also showed us how to put on a bandage.-Molly.
 

We used starfall.com to read books and dance. I love the song, "Head, shoulders, knees and toes".-Fiona.
 

We had to label pictures and make signs. I made a sign that said “Watch out for Santa flying”.-Ella.
 We wrote letters to Santa. We remembered to say please and thank you. Mrs Hayes gave us envelopes and we addressed them to Santa Claus, The North Pole.-Michelle.
 
We measured lots of things. I liked the snakes. I found out which was long, longer and longest.-Blaithin.

October News from P2
 
I got a new baby sister. Her name is Grainne. She is now in my house and she sleeps all the time.-Fiona.
 
My daddy is in Australia and he is working for a long, long time.-Molly.
 
My daddy was in Lithuania he got me a coat, hat and gloves. He came home and waked me up in the night.-Meida
 
I got tickets for Jedward and I went to Disney on ice in the Odyssey. I took the photographs into school and told the girls all about it. -Grace
 I went to Disney on ice too. My cousin Conor wandered all around the seats.
-Fiona

It was my brothers christening. He is called Jay. My cousin Eva stayed over in my house.-Kayleigh W.
 

In literacy we read the story “Can do” by Joyce Dunbar. We all had to write what we can do. I used the computer to write. I can swim in the pool.-Grace
 
We had to follow instructions to make toast. We put the bread into the toaster but an adult took it out incase we got burnt. I had jam and butter on mine.-Kayleigh Q
 
We had to write instructions to tell people how to grow a sunflower. I tried very hard to write a full page. When you get a full page written you can go on the computer. That was my first time writing a full page because I wanted to get on the computer.-Fiona

 We had to write all the things we would put in a spell. It was easy. Miss Kavanagh said we all did very well.-Rachel
 We have been reading fiction and non fiction books on the internet. The one about the pumpkin was easy.-Ella

We are learning about “O’clock”.  We know that when the big hand is at 12 it is O’clock. –Meida
We have been using Cuisenaire rods to make numbers. I didn’t see them before. We know how to count doubles. You put the same on each side and add them all together.-Caitlin T
 
We started learning Spanish on Thursday the 6th of October.
 We said hola and adios. I think I will like Spanish. - Molly
 
We had non uniform day on Friday the 7th of October.  I like wearing ordinary clothes.-Ella
 
We went on a walk to look for signs in our school. "Signs give you information. If you are confused a sign can help you".-Grace

I took photographs of the signs and Mrs McQuillan said they were the best photographs she had ever seen.-Caitlin T
 Nellie was not at school when we looked at the signs but I showed her lots of signs in the yard the next day.-Ella
 

Miss Kavanagh cut out a pumpkin and we all got seeds to take home. We called him Mr Pumpkin Head. - Meida.
 
We performed our Halloween song called Firework Night. We made sounds for the Catherine Wheel, Banger and Rocket with percussion instruments and our voices and hands. We also created actions for each of the different fireworks.
 
Happy birthday
to Ella who was six on the 28th of October and to Media who celebrated her birthday on the 29th.

Congratulations to the merit award winners. Kayleigh Q was our helpful girl, Meida was forgiving and Michelle was polite.
 
The girls have worked very hard this month on their writing and the P2 team want to thank them for their hard work.
 
Our walk to look at signs was a great success. The girls were able to read nearly all the signs in St. Clare’s and everyone enjoyed a relaxed walk in the Autumn sunshine.

P2 news for September.
 
I love P2. I am grown up now and don’t cry in the mornings. That is because I am going to be a big sister.
 We get sounds homework and have to do paper square work at home. I am very good at it.
 We are learning to re-tell a story. We had to draw and write about the beginning, the middle and the end. Pleasure went to the market and got lost. Then she found her dad.-Grace
 
We had lots of stories and the best one was called “The bear who wouldn’t share”. His Granny made him a cake and he wanted to eat it all himself. We had to use writer 2 to make a list of people we would invite to our party. I would invite; Molly, Ella and Fiona.-Chloe.
 
We looked at the big book and saw all the things that make noise underground and then we went for a walk to listen for sounds above ground. We did a play and pretended we were things from under the ground. It was funny, but it was hard! Some girls were moles and centipedes. The best bit was using the feely bag and guessing what the sound was. The bag had keys in it and a bell that goes round a cow’s neck in Switzerland. Miss Kavangh got it on her holidays. -Caitlin T
 
We have been counting up to 20 and making sets of numbers up to 16. We used number train and the whiteboard to count in two’s and our number line to find the number “Between”.

 We know how to make number bonds for numbers up to 5. We made a “human” number line. That means you hold a number and get in the right order. We are learning to subtract, it is the same as take away.

 We like playing pass the teddy in mental maths. It helps us to count forwards and backwards.-Blaithin.
 We made our own pictographs in groups to show our favourite fruit.-Rachel
 

We have a play book and every day the leader writes and draws in it. I used the vtech camera to take pictures during play and at recall time Miss Kavanagh showed us all how to put the lead into the camera and the computer. We looked at the pictures on the whiteboard and talked about what was happening.-Fiona
 

Our topic is “Houses and Homes” and we looked at the things people had in their houses in the olden days. We know the names of the different types of houses. We made a Carroll diagram to show who lived in a bungalow and who didn’t.
 We made a big display for the wall and put the three pigs on it.
 We all used painter 2 to draw our houses. We made houses out of play dough, wooden blocks, duplo and lego. The house I made from wood was fantastic. I used a real measuring tape to see how tall it was.-Rachel

Well done to our merit award winners for September. The polite award went to Blaithin, responsible to Jacqulin, respectful to Rachel and our friendly award to Grace.
 Our p2 prefect is Grace and the sub prefect is Natalia.
 

The P2 team would like thank the girls for their excellent behaviour during the inspection and the kindness they have shown to our two new girls.

We have enjoyed getting to know the girls this month and feel everyone has settled in well.
